Medicinal Breakfast

The purpose of eating an easily-metabolized breakfast is to give you energy all morning and to kick start your digestive organs, ensuring efficient digestion of lunch and dinner.  I have been making this delicious and wholesome breakfast for years and it is recommended  to use this recipe for 4-5 times per week. 

This recipe calls for steel cut oats, not oat flakes, and I use the organic kind.  In Chinese Medicine, oats help calm the nervous system, balance the thyroid, and lubricate the intestines.


Breakfast Oats
Ingredients
  • 1 Cup of organic, steel cut oats
  • 4 Cups water
  • A handful of the following in any combination: diced apple or raisins, dried cranberries, etc   
  • For some protein, add nuts of your choice.

Combine oats and water in a medium sized saucepan and bring to a full boil.  Turn off the heat, and immediately remove saucepan from element.  Add choice of optional ingredients and allow to sit, covered, for 45-50 mins.  You may sprinkle ground flax seed just before serving, add almond or rice milk and, if desired, sweeten with a bit of maple or agave syrup.  Heavenly!

Makes 4 -6 servings
